A colorful arts exhibition by the renowned La Reunion artist, Lionel Lauret, formed this year part of the extensive program of the activities for the Festival Kreol of the Seychelles. Lionel Lauret is a visual arts ambassador for La Reunion Island with his works seen and appreciated in exhibitions in Spain, Madagascar, Namibia, Paris in France, Frieburg in Germany, and Stasburg in France, among many of the recent solo exhibitions staged by the famous Indian Ocean artist.

For the Seychelles Festival Kreol Exhibition, Lionel Lauret had two styles of art work. The first was an explosion of color he calls “Plutonium Jam” and the second the “Itinerant Tribe.”

Lionel Laurant was born in Reunion Island in 1972. He graduated at the College of Decorative Arts of Starsbourg in France, and his art combines in equal proportions, science and innocence.

When opening the exhibition at the National Arts Gallery at the “House of Culture” at the National Cultural Centre in Victoria, Minister Alain St.Ange, the Seychelles Minister responsible for Tourism and Culture, said that Seychelles was honored to have Lionel Lauret stage one of his expositions during this Festival Kreol. “Having you here is a real bonus, but following on the discussions we had, I am happy to report that you will be working with us at the Department of Culture to bring together artists from La Reunion, Seychelles, and Mauritius and to see how we can get their works more seen in the world at large. This is what we now have to do – export our culture. The time is now, and when we achieve to export our culture, we are succeeded as a country. Our visual arts is our culture, and together we can get it outside our country for the benefit of our artists,” said Minister St.Ange who was speaking in the presence of PS Benjamine Rose, the PS for Culture, and Jimmy Savy, the CEO of the National Arts Council (NAC).
