A Boeing 767-400ER operated as United Airlines flight 144 departed Honolulu, Hawaii, at 4:25 pm on Saturday for a 10-hour nonstop domestic flight from Honolulu, Hawaii, to Washington DC Dulles International Airport in Virginia. The twin engine Boeing 767 long-range, wide-body jet landed back in Honolulu about 3 1/2 hours later.

The reason: A fire was reported from one of the engines about 1 1/2 hours into the flight over the Pacific Ocean.

The plane landed safely and all passengers left the airliner and took off about 4 hours later.

A reason for the fire is not yet known. United Airlines was unable to be reached.
