Seychellois and tourists who were on Praslin this last weekend for the annual culinary and arts fiesta on the island had the chance to see and appreciate a beautiful art work on the beach of Cote d’Or done by the famous sand artist from India, Sudarsan Pattnaik.

The sand sculpture was a main attraction for the three days was based on the country’s national theme “I love Seychelles.” It depicted a woman with a starfish in her hair, a coco de mer, and the “I love Seychelles” theme engraved at her side.

Mr. Pattnaik’s sculpture was inaugurated by the Minister for Tourism and Culture, Alain St.Ange, in the presence of the Indian High Commissioner, Sanjay Panda; Principal for Culture Benjamine Rose; Chief Executive of the National Arts Council Jimmy Savy; Chairperson of the Seychelles-India Day committee Ramu Pillay; and a large crowd of onlookers.

The sand sculptor was in the country recently for the Seychelles-India Day celebrations and had sculpted two sand works on Mahe, one in the heart of Victoria and the other on the popular Beau Vallon beach.

Mr. Pattnaik’s contribution to the Seychelles-India Day celebrations has in return given the islands great visibility as more than 80,000 people congratulated him for these works of art on social network sites.

High Commissioner Panda thanked Minister St.Ange and his team for helping to make the 2015 Seychelles-India Day a successful event, adding that next year Praslin will also be more involved in the celebrations as this was just the beginning.

Minister St.Ange said Seychelles has the best of sun, sea, and sand, and it is fitting to have a world’s most renowned sand artist sculpt an art on one of Seychelles’ most popular and stunning beaches.

He thanked Mr. Pattnaik for finding inspiration in the country’s national theme “I love Seychelles” and in the coco de mer nut, which was the icon of the first Praslin Culinary and Arts Fiesta held in September last year.
