Teachers Awards Ceremony in Seychelles held at State House

The celebration of the 25th Teachers Day was hosted at the State House yesterday afternoon with the Teachers Awards Presentation Ceremony, where 36 teachers were honored with awards.

The celebration of the 25th Teachers Day was hosted at the State House yesterday afternoon with the Teachers Awards Presentation Ceremony, where 36 teachers were honored with awards.

President James Michel presented an award to the Longest Serving Teacher, Mrs. Lucie Cadeau, from Anse Boileau Primary School, who has served 46 years in the teaching profession.

The ceremony was attended by the Vice President Danny Faure, the Minister for Education; Macsuzy Mondon; other Cabinet Ministers; Ministry of Education officials; award recipients; and other distinguished guests.

In her address at the event, the Minister for Education, Mrs. Macsuzy Mondon, announced that in 2015, a total of SR24.8 million would be dedicated for the adjustment of salary of teachers as well as the revision of the inducement allowance of teachers, including the allowance of student teachers.

Minister Mondon said that the ministry would be starting an ambitious teacher management development project with the assistance of the World Bank.

During the award ceremony, the two longest-serving lecturers, Ms. Marina Accouche from the School of Arts and Design and Mr. Tristan Boniface of the Seychelles Institute of Technology, also received special awards. Both have completed thirty-four years of service.

A total of twenty-two teachers received certificates for their commitment and hard work during twenty-five years of service in education while eleven retiring teachers received awards for their long years of dedication to the profession.

Seychelles is a founding member of the International Coalition of Tourism Partners (ICTP) .
