Canadian tourist Randy Kanuick was visiting Georgia in the US to take in an Atlanta Braves versus Toronto Blue Jays baseball games in Atlanta with is nephew. On their way to the game, he got into a minor fender bender. What happened next, shocked him.

Police who had arrived at the scene, cuffed him, leaving his nephew behind, and took him to jail where he stayed for 6 hours. He received a ticket for failing to maintain lane after he tried to get around a delivery truck. The fine was US$75.

When Kanuck asked the police officer why he was being taken to jail, the officer told him because he is a foreigner and may leave the state and not pay the fine.

Kanuck, visiting from Saskatchewan, posted a US$158 bond and paid the ticket as well.

According to the Atlanta Police Department, their rules state: The purpose of arresting and requiring the posting of a bond by the traffic violator is to ensure an appearance of the violator in court when an officer has reason to believe an offender will not appear for his or her scheduled court date.

Kanuck said he may never return to Atlanta.
