MANILA, Philippines – Severe turbulence on a Philippine Airlines flight caused 15 passengers to be injured today.

Flight PR101 flew from Honolulu, Hawaii, to Manila in the Philippines, a nearly 11-hour flight, and encountered what is called clear air turbulence 4 hours into the journey.

Clear air turbulence is when bodies of air moving at widely different speeds meet in the absence of any visual cues, such as clouds.

Some passengers were sent flying from their seats, hitting their heads on the ceiling of the passenger compartment.

A total of 132 passengers were onboard the Airbus 340 aircraft.
