Delta sets early June for Kenya flights
The sales and marketing team of Delta Air Lines in Kenya has now announced that June 3, 2009 is the starting date for their four times a week flights from Atlanta via Dakar / Senegal to Nairobi.
This will be the first direct connection by a US carrier to Eastern Africa, after Pan Am in the old days first operated regular flights, also via West Africa, before then switching their waypoint to Frankfurt/Germany.
According to Delta, it will initially operate a Boeing 767-300 on the route with 36 seats in business class and 181 seats in economy class, plus some significant cargo uplift boosting imports and exports by air.
By mid-2009 Delta said it is planning to connect to some 12 cities in 10 African countries, making it the premier North American airline for flights between the US and Africa.
Delta is a member of SkyTeam, the same alliance Kenya Airways and KLM belong to, opening options of code shared flights, before Kenya Airways can upon delivery of some of their newly ordered aircraft commence additional flights from Nairobi to the US.
