NEW YORK, NY – The Hangzhou Tourism Commission (HTC) brought the happiness of Hangzhou to New York City’s Flatiron district and served New Yorkers authentic Chinese ice cream flavors like Longjing Tea and Sweet Olive in a colorful food truck.
The plaza takeover celebrated the completion of the Global Tour 2015, a cultural immersion campaign in which two families and two storytellers from the U.S. and China were selected as ambassadors for the city of Hangzhou and traveled the world for 30 days ending in New York City.
The families and storytellers engaged with the New York City community while handing out ice cream and sharing about their experience on the Global Tour 2015. Both families performed an original musical number dedicated to the city of Hangzhou and the happiness for which the destination is known.
Highlights from their time in New York City included volunteering in Central Park as part of TreesCount! 2015, NYC Parks’ effort to map and catalogue every street tree; recording the originally composed Global Tour 2015 theme song, “It’s a Great Big World,” by Domenick Capaldi at Platinum Studios; visiting the American Museum of Natural History; and taking in captivating city views on the Circle Line Cruise Sightseeing Tour.
