Tourist arrested for gruesome murder of homeless Hawaii woman

A tourist from Illinois who has been staying at a hostel on the Big Island of Hawaii was arrested today in Hilo for the murder of a homeless woman.

The woman’s body was discovered by a homeless man in the downtown Hilo area at around 1 am who notified police. The 59-year-old victim had been raped, and her throat was slashed.

Video footage from one of the downtown businesses lead the police to Curtis Hodges. He is a 35-year-old visitor from Shiloh, Illinois, and was staying at hotel in Hilo off Waianuenue Avenue.

He has been taken into custody under suspicion of the charge of second-degree murder. Hodges has a criminal record on the US mainland and is a registered sex offender.
