Istanbul became the scene of attention this morning when at 1 am Monday bombs exploded in the city.
The violence began around 1 am on Monday in the city’s Sultanbeyli district. A bomb exploded near the police station, wounding at least 10 people.
At around 6:45 am, assailants opened fire at security forces who were guarding the damaged police station. Sultanbeyli is a working-class suburb of Istanbul, Turkey, on the Asian side, inland from Kartal and Pendik.
Also in Istanbul this morning the U.S. consulate remains closed to the public after a shooting near the consulate. It’s not clear if both incidents are related. U.S. authorities are working with Turkish police to investigate the incident at the consulate.
Police reports say that one attacker was male and the other one was female, adding that the police are searching for the suspects.
