Making a first indoor Netball World Cup appearance, the Uganda She Cranes started strongly, getting out to an early 22-10 first quarter lead and did not look back, winning the next three quarters: 18-11, 15-9 and 19-8.
Prolific goal shooter and skipper, Peace Proscovia, led the way for the She Cranes with 56 goals and a pair of assists. Goal attack, Racheal Nanyonga, backed up Proscovia with 12 goals and 7 assists. In the wing, Ruth Meme, went on attack with 20 goals and made 2 interceptions while center, Halima Nakacwa, had 12 assists.
Defender Betty Namukasa and goal keeper Florence Nanyonga did a great job at limiting Zambia’s shooters Diana Banda (GS) and Lucy Jere (GA) from getting the ball despite the pair connecting 36-of-41 attempts between them. The Ugandan pair deflected 13 passes.
She Cranes coach, Rashid Mubiru made the first substitution in the fourth quarter with Stella Oyella coming on for Racheal Nanyonga and the goal attack contributed 6 goals to the cause. Alice Nanteza came on for Florence Nanyonga.
The She Cranes play Fiji next on Saturday.
