According to NY police, a wedding at the famed Waldorf Astoria Hotel turned tragic Saturday evening when a guestโs gun accidentally went off โ striking a woman in the head and injuring three others.
The 55-year-old victim was rushed to Bellevue Hospital with a non-life threatening graze wound, sources said.
The 42-year-old gunman fired into the floor of the Park Ave. hotelโs first-floor lobby about 7:30 p.m. as wedding photos were being taken.
A high-ranking NYPD source said the gun was in the manโs pocket when it went off as he was retrieving his seating card.
Three other victims โ a 38-year-old woman, a 45-year-old woman and a 59-year-old man โ were rushed to area hospitals after suffering injuries to their legs, sources said.
They were hit by debris from the round striking the ground, said Manhattan Chief of Detectives William Aubrey.
The suspect was apprehended at the scene and told cops heโs a licensed permit holder โ but the weapon was not initially recovered.
Investigators believe the man panicked and handed off the gun to someone else, sources said.
Detectives were seen rooting through nearby garbage cans in search of the firearm.
The gunman and two other people were being questioned at the Midtown North precinct stationhouse Saturday night.
The shooting stunned the well-heeled guests staying at the hotel, which regularly caters to world leaders and A-list celebrities .
