Spain PM sees amicable end to Argentina airline row
SAN SALVADOR - Spanish Prime Minister Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero said he was confident there will be a satisfactory solution to a quarrel between Argentina's government and a Spanish-owned airline it is trying to take over.
Argentina is in talks to agree on a price to take over Aerolineas Argentinas, owned by Spanish travel group Marsans.
Two different auditors have evaluated the company but the two sides have still not been able to agree on how much the company is worth.
Zapatero, in El Salvador for a summit of Ibo-American leaders, told reporters he expects Argentina and Marsans would reach an eventual deal.
"Most of the issues being discussed and that have been raised have a solution and are resolved with respect to both parties' interests. I'm confident it will also be this way in the case of Aerolineas," he said.
Marsans agreed in principal in July to sell the airline to the government, and on Friday reiterated its request to the government to assign a third auditor to determine the value of the company.
Argentine President Cristina Fernandez has made assurances the government will not expropriate the airline.
