HONOLULU, Hawaii – This morning at around 7:45 am, a US naval ship collided with the dock of a national park attraction in Honolulu, Hawaii, famous for bringing in over 5,000 tourists every day to its various sites.

The famous USS Arizona Memorial in Pearl Harbor was damaged enough to make it unsafe for visitors to go the memorial. National Park officials shut down the memorial, and it will remain closed for several days.

A tug boat was guiding in the Military Sealife Command hospital ship USNS Mercy when it ran into the Arizona Memorial dock, pushing it around 10 feet and damaging ramps and railings.

Navy launches are not able to tie up to the dock, however, visitors can still take a 7-minute ride on a launch to within about 100 to 200 yards from the memorial, where they will cruise the area for around 5 minutes before being brought back to the Visitorsโ€™ Center.

The USS Arizona Memorial sits above the sunken battleship from the attack on Pearl Harbor by the Japanese government on December 7, 1941, leading to World War II.

According to park officials, the Pearl Harbor Visitor Center, the Battleship Missouri Memorial, the Pacific Aviation Museum, and the USS Bowfin Submarine are open to visitors.

The USNS Mercy arrived in Pearl Harbor on Monday for Pacific Partnership 2015 โ€“ an annual multilateral humanitarian assistance and disaster relief preparedness mission conducted in the Indio-Asia-Pacific region.
