Following today’s queen’s speech, Heathrow CEO John Holland-Kaye provided commenatry on the government’s priorities:

Infrastructure investment and rebalancing the economy

“Central to rebalancing the economy will be addressing the structural foundations that underpin it, specifically infrastructure investment. Heathrow is Britain’s gateway to the world for passengers, business and freight. It’s the launch pad for British enterprise and the red carpet for tourists and international inward investment. With expansion, more domestic services into the UK’s hub airport will make it more efficient for exports in all parts of our island trading nation to get to fast-growing markets, as well as quicker for global investors and tourists to reach new parts of the UK.”

Jobs

“The Government is right to put job creation at the heart of its legislative agenda. Britain needs more skilled, well-paid jobs and as one of the UK’s biggest single-site employers, Heathrow expansion will help deliver them – creating up to 10,000 apprenticeships and up to 180,000 new jobs right across the UK. There is a huge prize to be won by expanding Heathrow – the potential to eradicate youth unemployment in the communities around the airport, narrow the skills gap and deliver the connections that regional businesses need to grow – we urge the Government to seize it.”

Air Passenger Duty

“Air passenger duty is a burden on British competitiveness, tourism, investment and trade. Only a meaningful reduction, moving towards total abolition of APD across the entire country will support the UK on the journey to long-term, sustainable economic growth.”
