Seychelles makes its mark at Indaba trade fair in South Africa

The Seychelles Tourism Board has won the best stand award at Indaba, South Africa’s biggest trade fair held from May 9-11.

At the opening of Indaba 2015, the South African Minister for Tourism, Derek Hanekon, told the world’s travel and tourism media that tourism is a spectacular success story as it continues to contribute to every country’s economic growth.

The Seychelles Tourism Board displayed the national colors alongside Eden Blue Hotel and Air Seychelles representatives at its spectacular award-winning stand.

It is clear that Seychelles remains a popular holiday destination for South Africans and that it is a market where interest and inquiries are quickly transformed into bookings. This is very much facilitated by the availability of a direct flight from the market to Seychelles, and so it will remain as more and more people are venturing out to discover new places, leaving the ordinary and familiar behind to seek out unique experiences.

To those who have not yet been to Seychelles, Minister Hanekom had this very important message, ‘”For those of you who do not know Seychelles, wake up!”

Minister Hanekom visited Seychelles’ stand and met the Chief Executive of the Seychelles Tourism Board, Sherin Naiken.

Ms. Naiken said South Africa is an important market for Seychelles and the country’s presence in the fair has not only renewed its commitment with the players on the market but also with those of the region and with South Africa tourism with which Seychelles shares an excellent relationship.

“Having started the market on a very good note this year gives us hope that through business acquired in this year’s Indaba trade fair, this positive trend will continue,” she said.

The importance of the fair and the level of exhibitors and buyers it attracts is always a prime reason why the Seychelles Tourism Board takes part in Indaba.

The Director for Africa and the Americas, David Germain, said Indaba is a great platform for the Seychelles Tourism Board as it gives them the chance to link with the global tourism industry players selling the African continent and the region, and travel professionals from around the world who attended Indaba this year.

“We were able to renew relationships with existing partners and met new buyers as well,” he added.
