For the third time this month, a Hawaiian Airlines (HA) flight had to make an emergency landing. This time in California after departing a half hour prior.

HA flight 3 had already been delayed a couple of hours when it finally took off from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) at around 1:00 pm headed for Honolulu, Hawaii. The pilot declared an emergency after an indicator light came on โ€“ it was not stated what the indicator light was for.

The Airbus 330-200 aircraft circled the Southern California area to burn off fuel before safely landing back at LAX at 2:22 pm with 300 people onboard.

Originally, there was an accidental fuel spill for the aircraft which caused the initial 2-hour delay. It is not known if this incident had anything to do with the cause of the emergency landing.

Firefighters were waiting on the runway as a precaution. There has not been any word yet on when the passengers of flight 3 will be able to depart.

This was Hawaiian Airlineโ€™s third emergency this month.

On May 12, a Hawaiian Airlines flight headed from Honolulu to Kailua-Kona made an emergency landing on Maui when one of its two engines malfunctioned. An engine of the Boeing 717 was smoking when it landed at Kahului Airport. There were no injuries.

On May 1, a Hawaiian Airline Boeing 767-300 jet carrying 224 passengers and 10 crew on a flight to Oakland returned to Maui and made an emergency landing after an odor of fumes was detected in the cabin. Two people suffered minor injuries when passengers evacuated on emergency slides. The problem was blamed on equipment that controls air pressure and recycles air.
