(TVLW) - Travel agents have reported the emergence of a new breed of "nostalgia tourists" who return to destinations of which they have fond memories.

A survey has found people are increasingly keen to visit spots where they had memorable holidays in their youth, while some married couples have been returning to their honeymoon location.

Despite the potential for disappointment, 66 per cent of those surveyed had a "positive" experience during their nostalgia trip.

Caroline Cartellieri, from the travel firm Expedia, which carried out the study, said: "Nostalgia has become a big driver in destination choice.

"It's great that so many people have a positive experience when they do revisit somewhere, but ensuring you discover new aspects of an old favourite will keep the excitement alive."

Prof Adrian Furnham, of University College London, said: "It's interesting how many people are overcoming their fear of disappointment and revisiting previous travel destinations."
