Malaysian tourism is leaving out its welcome mat for a longer run
into 2008, bringing along three other Malaysian states into its
'winning run' after reporting a successful Visit Malaysia Year 2007
campaign.

Despite alarm flags raised following the unplanned incidents of floods
and street demonstrations towards the campaign's end during the year,
Malaysia still managed to record 20.7 million arrival figures by
December, according to the country's ministry of tourism.

Citing it was an achievement made possible by promotional campaigns,
tourist programs, packages and activities, tourism minister Tengku
Adnan said arrival figures "exceeded our target by 600,0000 arrivals."

Adnan further disclosed Malaysia earned US$13.8 billion in foreign
exchange earnings, also exceeding its target of $13.4 billion set
earlier.

Better flight frequencies by national carrier Malaysia Airlines and
Asia's biggest low cost carrier AirAsia have enabled more visitors to
reach Malaysia, said Adnan. "We may even reach 21 million arrivals."

Malaysia has targeted 21 million arrivals in 2008, rising further to
24 million by 2010.

Malaysia's tourism campaign will now be extended to August 2008,
bringing along three Malaysian states, Kedah, Kelantan and Terengganu
into its winning run by promoting its own 2008 tourism year theme and
campaigns.

The extended Malaysian tourism year campaign for 2008 will now carry a
new campaign theme: "One Golden Celebration".
