Russian freezer trawler “Dalniy Vostok” has sunk in the Sea of Okhotsk off the Kamchatka Peninsula. According to the officials, there were 132 people on board – 78 Russians and 54 foreigners.

According to the officials, there were 132 people on board – 78 Russians and 54 foreigners. “According to preliminary data, besides Russians the crew included nationals of Burma, Vanuatu, Latvia and Ukraine,” a source from the rescue services said.

Russian Emergencies Ministry official said that at this time a total of 106 people were lifted from the water, 63 of them are alive. At least 43 have been confirmed dead.

Local officials report that two dozen ships and the rescue helicopter with four rescuers and medics on board are working at the site to rescue the remaining crew members.
