Together with Saarland, the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate has created the very first Rhineland-Palatinate national park in Hunsrück. The Saar-Hunsrück Nature Park’s 10,000 hectares stretch between Idar-Oberstein, Birkenfeld, Hermeskeil, Morbach, and Nonnweiler.

In addition to special beech forests and moors, the park is also a natural habitat for arnica and mat grass meadows. Before park operations officially begin on May 25, 2015, a grand opening ceremony will take place from May 23-24, 2015 (the Saturday before Pentecost and Pentecost Sunday). The celebration will include ranger tours and an accompanying evening program at the “Hunsrückhaus,” as well as other national park events planned for Pentecost Sunday.

The national park’s multitude of flora and fauna will not only provide visitors with relaxation and regeneration, but also serve as a green oasis for all nature enthusiasts.
