Seychelles President James Michel met with the President of the Northern Region Youth Committee, Mr. Ziggy Adam, and members of the committee together with 26 young Seychellois who have been selected as part of the NRYC program โ28 Young People Making a Difference in Seychelles.โ
President Michel congratulated the young people for their achievements and said that he was very proud of their efforts to promote youth empowerment, to develop their talents, and to showcase Seychellesโ innovative programs to the Commonwealth.
โYou have shown that you love your countryโฆ that are ready to develop, to be the young future leaders of the countryโฆ I am very proud of your achievements and I am glad to see that you have the opportunity to blossom and make your dreams a reality,โ said President Michel during the meeting.
The NYRC is a group of young people promoting youth and empowering them through educational activities in the northern region of Mahe. The group launched the โ28 Young People Making a Difference in Seychellesโ national initiative with inspiration from the 2015 Commonwealth theme of โA Young Commonwealth.โ The competition was open to all Seychellois youth from the age of 12 to 29 years.
The NYRC will publish a book about the young Seychellois achievers, and the program is expected to be replicated in other Commonwealth countries through the Commonwealth Youth Council.
According to the NYRC, as part of the 2015 Commonwealth Day celebration, a reception was organized where Her Majesty Queen Elisabeth II met and discussed issues with young people across the Commonwealth, who form part of the Commonwealth Youth Council. The Queen welcomed the proposed initiative by the Commonwealth Youth Council to publish a book in commemoration for Commonwealth young achievers.
Seychelles is a founding member of the International Coalition of Tourism Partners (ICTP) .
