An adult female gorilla locally named Bwiruka (meaning one who knows how to run fast) was found dead by trackers visiting Nshongi Family in Southwestern Uganda Bwindi Impenetrable National Park on Monday.

The news was circulated through the Uganda Wildlife Authority park headquarters in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park.

Several condolence messages did their rounds via social media with one “mourner,” Yampa Abraham demanding, a call that the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) should arrange for a ceremonial burial. “This should be done whenever we lose a loved one,” he says. “It’s one the ways of imparting conservation ethics to the citizens of this nation,” he added.

He said, “Our prayer is that that UWA will take the hint and arrange a good send-off to Bwiruka, since death is inevitable. May she rest in peace.”
