As Hurricane Omar is expected to pass over the Territory, the US Virgin Islands Department of Tourism is taking all appropriate measures to prepare for the storm and minimize the hurricane’s impact on their guests. The Department remains in close contact with the National Weather Service (NWS) to ensure that the most up-to-date information is made available. According to the NWS, a Hurricane Warning is in effect for today with storm conditions expected to continue through Thursday morning.

The Department of Tourism is advising travelers to contact their airline, as flights have been cancelled for today and contact their hotel or travel professional for alternate arrangements. The Commissioner Beverly Nicholson-Doty stated, "As the comfort and safety of our guests is our top priority, the Department of Tourism recommends that all visitors postpone their visit to the Territory until after Friday, October 17 in order to ensure an enjoyable guest experience."

Travelers are encouraged to visit www.usviupdate.com for the latest storm updates and messages from the Department of Tourism, hotels and airlines. All press inquiries should be directed to (877) 823-5999 or usviteam@mbooth.com .
