Qantas is aiming to bring more of New Zealand’s frequent flyers under its wing with the rare offer of free Gold status in the Qantas Frequent Flyer scheme.

The status match promotion requires only that the traveler holds “gold or higher status with any airline” other than Qantas partner Emirates, and lives in New Zealand.

New Zealand already has the highest number of Qantas Frequent Flyer members outside of Australia, and while Qantas offer extends to any airline it’s also a shot across the bow of Virgin Australia partner Air New Zealand.

The gold status match runs through to 11.59pm (NZ time) on March 9, and includes a full year of Gold status with the Qantas Frequent Flyer program.

Perks include access to domestic Qantas Club lounges (just make sure you’re appropriately dressed) and international Qantas Business Lounges, checkin at the business class desk plus extra checked luggage and priority baggage handling.
