Akwaaba African Travel Market is the only International Travel Trade Fair in West Africa and is taking place every year in Lagos.

Akwaaba African Travel Market is the only International Travel Trade Fair in West Africa and is taking place every year in Lagos. It is the largest marketing platform where airlines, hotels, restaurants, tour operators, travel agents, state tourism boards, roreign trade and tourism sectors in Nigeria, West Africa, and Africa come together to showcase their offerings to the traveling public.

Last year Akwaaba attracted exhibitors from over 20 countries and about 15,000 exhibitors, buyers, and members of the public attended and more are expected this year. The 3-day event features the Africa Travel Awards, Spa Africa Day, The Wedding Show, Wine Tasting, Africa Business Travel Association Workshop, Hospitality & Aviation Forum, as well as Country Day Celebrations.

According to the Executive Director of Akwaaba, Rita Ikechi-Uko, the event for 2015 was shifted to a new date in November due the Nigerian elections being postponed from February 14 to a later date which coincides with the dates and period for Abuja Bantaba. There was, therefore, the need to cancel this event for 2015 which was scheduled for April 25. Also, due to the elections and the lessons learned from the Ebola Epidemic in 2014, Alwaaba will now take place from the November 22-24 at the Eko Hotel Convention Centre in Lagos.

These changes come as the event organizers also announced the launch of Accra Weizo, a 1-day travel seminar, workshop, and exhibition taking place in Accra, Ghana, on July 3, 2015. Accra Weizo was described by the organizers as a meeting focused on aviation, tourism, and immigration. The 1-day event already has eminent speakers lined up, promising to become a regular event in Ghana. The organizers are already working with the Ghana Tour Operators Union (TOUGHA). Pre- and post-event tour packages for different parts of Ghana are being prepared for the 150+ delegates expected from all over Africa.
