SAN JOSE, CA – Mineta San José International Airport (SJC) served 800,536 departing and arriving passengers in December 2014, a 3.6 percent increase compared to December 2013. In calendar year 2014, SJC served 9,385,212 passengers, marking an increase of 6.9 percent and solid growth over the past two years with a gain of over 1 million passengers.

In 2014, Silicon Valley business and leisure travelers had more choices with new and expanded nonstop service to markets such as Los Angeles, Salt Lake City, Seattle and Honolulu. The Airport’s focus for 2015 is more daytime and year-round service to the East Coast, new nonstop flights to Europe and Canada, and more flights to Asia.

“Our Airport team is pleased our efforts continue to pay off as we remain focused on providing a world-class experience for our current customers and providing reasons for future customers to try SJC for the first time,” said Director of Aviation Kim Becker Aguirre. “Travelers responded favorably to the variety of high-tech and high-touch services we introduced in our modern facilities in 2014, and will be delighted with the developments currently underway in 2015.”

With a focus on bringing more international nonstop flights to Silicon Valley, SJC introduced Global Entry kiosks in international arrivals and the high-tech Power Suite, a quiet pre-boarding work space, both in 2014.

Other 2014 developments included:

– Adding six new concessions in Terminal A – Access Point, Einstein Bros Bagels, Red Mango Yogurt & Smoothies, Sip Savvy, Starbucks and Sunset News;

– Automating all parking lots to make exiting faster and more convenient by simply swiping a credit card in the card reader when entering and exiting; and

– The Club at SJC, open to all travelers for a daily fee of $35, was awarded “Best Staff” recognition among 700+ airport lounges worldwide for the prestigious Priority Pass 2014 Lounge of the Year Awards.

Projects underway in 2015 include automated passport control kiosks, a duty free/duty paid store, and doubling international gate capacity with two additional gates for improved flexibility in flight scheduling. A variety of new concessions – stores, restaurants and services – will also be introduced in 2015.
