Three Indian bar workers have been arrested over the death of an Australian tourist in the Goa beach resort area.

Police in the Goan town of Calangute say the death of 65-year-old Australian tourist John Gibb Kelly is being investigated as a murder.

Mr Kelly died while being treated for injuries he received in a fight at a beachside restaurant in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Two waiters and a security guard from the restaurant have been arrested.

Police say Mr Kelly had been in Goa since September 29, a day after arriving in India.

His passport indicates Mr Kelly was born in Scotland and his visa was issued in Canberra.
