PARIS, France – French security forces remain on high alert. On Sunday more than 50 world leaders and top envoys joined record crowds, including tourists from around the world, for a huge Paris rally in honor of the victims of a three-day spree of violence that killed 17 people and shook the French nation.
Massive crowds gathered in Paris for a unity march following this weekโs violent events, which killed 17 people.
More than 50 world leaders and top envoys joined French President Franรงois Hollande at the demonstration in central Paris.
The French Interior Ministry said an โunprecedentedโ number of people have marched but that an official count is โimpossible.โ
AFP estimates more than 2.5 million people rallied against terrorism across France on Sunday.
There have also been huge demonstrations in other French cities and towns, as well as European capitals such as London, Berlin and Vienna.
Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve met with European security ministers as well as US Attorney General Eric Holder earlier Sunday.
The demonstrations come two days after French security officials ended a siege in Dammartin-en-Goรซle, a town northeast of Paris, and a kosher supermarket at Porte de Vincennes, in eastern Paris.
