Green Globe certifies complete collection of IBEROSTAR hotels & resorts in Mexico

LOS ANGELES, California – Located near Riviera Nayarit on Mexico’s Pacific Coast, IBEROSTAR Playa Mita has marked its first anniversary since opening with certification by Green Globe.

LOS ANGELES, California – Located near Riviera Nayarit on Mexico’s Pacific Coast, IBEROSTAR Playa Mita has marked its first anniversary since opening with certification by Green Globe. This award for sustainable management now brings all IBEROSTAR properties throughout Mexico under Green Globe certification.

The comprehensive sustainability audit process conducted at IBEROSTAR Playa Mita has recognized the efforts of IBEROSTAR Hotels & Resorts to operate a responsible tourism development while minimizing impacts on the environment.

“Actions like this make our operations more sustainable, taking care of resources so that future generations can continue to enjoy the natural wealth of the country,” said Jordi Solé, Director of Operations at IBEROSTAR Mexico.

Green Globe is the world’s leading program for sustainability certification in travel and tourism and its international standard is based on more than 300 indicators covering energy management, water and land use as well as social and cultural indicators within destinations. In line with Green Globe’s standard, IBEROSTAR in Mexico operate their own ambitious program to ensure optimization of resource use and promotion of environment friendly hotel & resort management.

Through their “Think Green” program, IBEROSTAR has implemented various actions including, reduction of greenhouse gases through decreased energy consumption, as well as reuse of treated wastewater for irrigation and use of biodegradable cleaning products. Improved management of solid waste and promotion of a recycling culture among guests is also part of the program. And finally a focus on local economic development is supported by sustainable procurement policies.

IBEROSTAR’s collection of Green Globe certified properties in Mexico include: IBEROSTAR Playa Paraíso Golf & Spa Resort complex in Riviera Maya, which comprises IBEROSTAR Grand Hotel Paraíso, IBEROSTAR Paraíso Maya, IBEROSTAR Paraíso Lindo, IBEROSTAR Paraíso Beach and IBEROSTAR Paraíso del Mar. In addition IBEROSTAR Cozumel, IBEROSTAR Cancun, and in Playa del Carmen, IBEROSTAR Tucán and IBEROSTAR Quetzal were all awarded Green Globe certification two years ago.
