Edinburgh ranks as the most expensive city in Europe in which to spend New Year’s Eve, according to a new survey from a hotel room tourism website. The survey compared 30 major European destinations based on the cost of their lodging for December 31, 2014.

In Edinburgh, Scotland, a New Year’s Eve reveler will have to spend GBP 217 for the cheapest available double room on December 31. It has to be noted that only centrally-located hotels rated at least three stars and having a positive average client rating, have been considered by the survey.

According to spokesperson Joan Mitchell from the company Cheaproom, “The Scottish capital is virtually sold out for New Year’s Eve, and most hotels that still have availability are requiring guests to stay at least two or three nights.”

The second most expensive destination on the survey is Amsterdam, with a price tag of only a few pounds fewer than Edinburgh. Venice rounds out the Top 3 with an overnight rate of GBP 207 for the least expensive double room.

Among the other UK destinations considered for this survey, London and York are the priciest. They rank fourth and fifth most expensive in Europe with rates of GBP 201 and GBP 190, respectively. On the other side of the spectrum, Glasgow is among Europe’s least expensive destinations. In Scotland’s largest city, New Year’s Eve celebrators should find a room for around GBP 60 on December 31.
