GREYMOUTH, New Zealand – Police are seeking witnesses to a fatal crash involving four tourists on the West Coast.

A female tourist was killed when the car she was travelling in crashed near Bell Creek on State Highway 73, south of Kumara, about 5pm yesterday.

The woman, aged in her 20s, died at the scene.

A spokesman for the Greymouth-based NZCC rescue helicopter said a 21-year-old Chinese female was flown to Grey Base Hospital.

Two other women, also aged in their 20s, were taken to Greymouth by road ambulance.

One woman was later transferred to Christchurch Hospital in a critical condition, while the other two remained in Greymouth.

A police spokeswoman said the tourists’ vehicle was the only one involved in the crash.

A serious crash investigation was under way and police were liaising with the relevant consulate to inform next of kin.

The spokeswoman said anyone who witnessed the crash should contact police.
