Trinidad and Tobago is a stunning destination of 60,000 people and for vacationers. More and more it’s becoming also a place of choice to retire. Germans and British are on top of the fan list.
Trinidad and Tobago has a relatively high crime rate, but has earned a reputation to be safe, when it comes to violent crimes against tourists.
An exception to this overall rule unfortunately was recorded this weekend, when an elderly German couple was found murdered on a beach near their retirement home. This happened in the southern Caribbean island of Tobago on Saturday.
This may generate a blow to the very much striving travel and tourism industry on this Caribbean island.
In the meantime, the Tourism Division of the Tobago House of Assembly, in a statement, condemned the killing of Mr and Mrs Keil.
โMr and Mrs Keil have been living in Tobago, which they called home, for the last 15 years and were well known in their community. Their deaths come as a shock to all of Tobago and the THA because they have occurred at a time when Tobagoโs already low crime rate has been further reduced in 2014 when compared to 2013,โ the statement said.
โThe THA has been in contact with the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service and has been assured that the Police have already set up a high level team to pursue the investigation with the aim of bringing to justice whoever is responsible for the Keilโs deaths. The THA extends its deepest sympathies to the family and friends of Mr and Mrs Keil.โ
The bodies of 74 year old Conrad Keale and his 71 year old wife Bridgette Keale bore marks of violence, police said.
A television report said the bodies appeared to have chop wounds. Police said the couple, regular visitors to the tourist island that is part of Trinidad and Tobago, arrived on Oct. 25. They had been staying at their home in Bacolet on the south west coast.
They were last seen alive on Friday evening. Police said a gardener arrived at their home on Saturday morning and when he could not find them, went to a nearby beach, where he discovered the body of Bridgette Keale. The police were called and the second body was found on the same beach.
