WUZHEN, China – The Second Wuzhen Theatre Festival 2014, co-founded by president of Cultural Wuzhen, Chen Xianghong, award-winning US-bornTaiwan-based playwright and theater director Stan Sheng-Chuan Lai, renowned Chinese drama producerHuang Lei, and one of China’s most influential theater directors,Meng Jinghui, will be held in Wuzhen starting from October 30.

Wuzhen, one of the four famous towns in the region bordering the southern bank of the Yangtze River, has a history of recorded civilization going back more than 7,000 years and a history of architecture exceeding 1,300 years. Wuzhen has long been known as the last surviving water town inChina. The first Wuzhen Theatre Festival held in 2013 was a huge success.

This year’s Wuzhen Theatre Festival invited 17 masterful theatrical works from around the world to be performed in Wuzhen’s eight theatres. The Youth Theatre Artist’s Competition and the Outdoor Carnival session will also be held during the festival. During the 11 days spanning the event, drama lovers worldwide can watch great shows performed by renowned European drama studios, shows that have rarely been performed inAsia. Visitors can immerse themselves in the combination of an ancient town and modern culture by watching the Carnival performances along the streets of Wuzhen.
