Reunion Island Tourism (IRT) is, before the end of the month, sending 700 fragrance boxes to travel agents across Germany to draw attention to the exotic French Indian Ocean island under their latest marketing offensive. The agents were selected for having attended road shows, visiting the Reunion Island stand at tourism trade fairs, attending marketing seminars and online training sessions, and participating in educational tours/fam trips to Reunion Island. A personal letter, addressed by the IRT to each recipient, further explained about the box’s content while also expressing thanks for the continued support by sending clients to the island.

This follows in the footsteps of the mid-year campaign when a treasure hunt was unfolding in the cities of Frankfurt and Munich, which also proved hugely successful.

Three flavors were chosen to symbolize three themes:

• hiking and waterfalls are embodied in a fresh scent that evokes the image of nature;

• the cocktail at sunset is represented by an exotic fragrance that evokes the image of the Indian Ocean facing a romantic sunset; and

• the picnic in a Creole garden is personified by a sweet scent with hints of vanilla and coconut, evoking the image of meals, exotic fruits, and flower gardens.

The Reunion Island Experience is at the heart of this unique marketing approach and getting “a scent” of the island in a little bottle will no doubt inspire the sense of travel for real.
