A partnership has been announced between UNICEF and Africa’s leading Internet booking portal to raise funds to advance child protection.

A partnership has been announced between UNICEF and Africa’s leading Internet booking portal to raise funds to advance child protection.

UNICEF and Jovago.com announced their partnership under which bookings made through Jovago.com will attract a US$5 donation by Jovago.com to UNICEF.

UNICEF’s “Passport to Protection” initiative advances child protection by registering children with birth certificates using Internet technology. For every booking that is made using the code “UNICEF,” Jovago.com will donate US$5 at no extra cost to the client making the booking. The objective is to collect at least U$100,000 within the first year of this applaudable partnership.

Commenting on the Passport to Protection initiative, Jovago’s Managing Director, Ms. Estelle Verdier Watine, said: “UNICEF’s birth registration program is remarkable, both in regards to its objective to give each child a passport and in regards to the progressive use of technology, which ensure that registration is efficient. We are very proud to be part of this initiative.” Responding to the comments, Ms. Leila Pakkala, UNICEF’s Regional Director for Eastern and Southern Africa, added her own voice when she said: “Registration is the ‘first right’ of any child, and I am delighted that this partnership – a partnership for children – will help provide this right to many.”

With over 1,000 properties on offer in Kenya alone and nearly 10,000 across Africa, this initiative is bound to make waves across the countries where Jovago.com is present, namely Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, Ethiopia, South Sudan, Uganda, Malawi, Botswana, Namibia, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Djibouti, Nigeria, Mali, Ivory Coast, Congo, Cameroon, Mozambique, Senegal, and Algeria where clients can use the UNICEF code for their bookings with immediate effect.
