What is sure to remain a big tourism draw for the Aloha State is safe and sound – same sex marriage. A lawsuit by Natasha N. Jackson had been brought against Hawaii Governor Neil Abercrombie citing a 2012 Hawaii marriage law which excludes same-sex couples from legally marrying.
However, in the time it took this case to make its way through the court system, Hawaii state legislators had already passed the Marriage Equality Act on December 2, 2013 and became law when the state Governor signed the act.
Previously, the federal district court upheld the old law, and that decision was appealed, resulting in the Ninth Circuit court remanding the case to the lower court which dismissed the case.
