It became increasingly clear to a Tanzania-based airline that their passengers found it more difficult to understand the English language page when attempting to book a flight, read terms and conditions, and generally interact with them, resulting in the addition of the new language page. With many passengers still first-time flyers, it is of particular interest to the airline that they can access and understand how to book flights on the web.
So the airline, Fastjet, launched a new Kiswahili language page on their websites. The airline covers three domestic destinations out of Dar es Salaam, Kilimanjaro, Mwanza and Mbeya, whose passengersโ primary language is the East African Lingua Franca. Flyers can still visit any of the sales offices which serve these destination cities and towns to make flight arrangements.
In terms of passengers carried, Fastjet is now Tanzaniaโs largest airline. Last month they carried nearly 58,000 passengers on domestic and international routes, though in terms of destinations covered others are leading the way, in particular Auric Air which now reaches up to 20 destinations across the sprawling East African country covering even remoter areas where local airfields allow only for light aircraft landings while Fastjetโs Airbus A319 jets can only land at major airports.
