HONOLULU - Several civil rights groups are calling for the resignation of the state's top tourism executive because of racist and sexist e-mails forwarded from his government computer.

Alphonso Braggs is president of the Hawaii branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People.

He says Rex Johnson has ``damaged the mission and integrity'' of the Hawaii Tourism Authority with his inappropriate and unethical behavior.

Meanwhile, HTA's board has scheduled a special meeting on September 29th to discuss the fate of Johnson.

The president and chief executive of the state's tourism agency already has been reprimanded and had his pay docked by the board for using his state e-mail account to relay pornographic material.
