One would think that with the world being in such a heightened state of alertness due to fears of an Ebola pandemic that joking about having the disease is simply not funny… especially if you are in a commercial airplane. Last Wednesday, a US Airways flight from Philadelphia to Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, caught the world’s attention when one of its passengers did just that.

US Airways issued a statement Friday claiming it was following US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines when it called health authorities after a man in one of its flights had allegedly sneezed and said he “came from Africa.”

According to officials from the Dominican Republic, the man was not allowed to enter the country and was put on a flight back to the US. It is unclear at this point if the man will be facing charges for making a “joke in bad taste.”
