BANGKOK, Thailand – THAI Airways International Public Company Limited (THAI) held its Board of Directors Meeting chaired by Mr. Areepong Bhoocha-oom, THAI’s Acting Chairman of the Board of Directors, with the following results.

1. Operating Results for August 2014

The THAI Board of Directors acknowledged the Company’s operating performance for August 2014. Airport of Thailand’s statistics showed that inbound and outbound international air traffic through Suvarnabhumi Airport improved 15 percent in August, compared to July, but was still 13.3 percent lower than August 2013. As a result, THAI adjusted flight frequencies to better reflect actual travel demand, thus lowering Available Seat-Kilometer (ASK) including that of THAI Smile Airways to be 3.6 percent lower than the same month last year. Revenue Passenger-Kilometer (RPK) including that of THAI Smile Airways was 6.9 percent lower than the same month last year – with intercontinental routes 8.3 percent lower and Asia’s routes 5.7 percent lower than the same month last year, while RPK on domestic routes including THAI Smile Airways was 5.1 percent lower than the same month last year. Cabin Factor including that of THAI Smile Airways averaged 75.3 percent which was lower than last year’s average of 78.0 percent.

For the Company’s Cargo and Commercial Mail, Available Dead Ton-Kilometers (ADTK), including aircraft belly and freighter, was 2.2 percent lower than the same month last year. Revenue Freight Ton-Kilometer (RFTK) was 15.7 percent lower than the same month last year which resulted in a Freight Load Factor averaging 39.3 percent, which was lower than last year’s average at 45.6 percent.

2. THAI Smile Airways Operating from Don Mueang and Suvarnabhumi

The THAI Board of Directors approved THAI Smile Airways operating at both Don Mueang Airport and Suvarnabhumi Airport for the Winter Traffic Schedule 2014/15 which starts from 26 October 2014.

THAI Smile Airways will operate from Don Mueang Airport to three existing destinations – Chiang Mai, Khon Kaen, and Phuket (including direct flights from Chiang Mai to Phuket) with increased frequencies to these destinations starting 26 October 2014 as follows:

Don Mueang – Chiang Mai v.v. to increase from three flights per day to four flights

Don Mueang – Phuket v.v. to increase from two flights per day to three flights

Don Mueang – Khon Kaen v.v. to remain at the current three flights per day

Chiang Mai – Phuket v.v. to remain at the current one flight per day

THAI Smile Airways operations from Suvarnabhumi Airport for the Winter Traffic Schedule 2014/15 will commence from 26 October 2014 as follows:

Suvarnabhumi – Udon Thani v.v. will operate four flights per day
Suvarnabhumi – Hat Yai v.v. will operate four flights per day
Suvarnabhumi – Krabi v.v. will operate two flights per day
Suvarnabhumi – Surat Thani v.v will operate two flights per day
Suvarnabhumi – Ubon Ratchathani v.v. will operate two flights per day
Suvarnabhumi – Macau v.v. will operate two flights per day

For THAI Smile Airways flights operating from Don Mueang from 10 October 2014 onward, customers may make reservations, confirm flights, and issue tickets (code WE) starting from 2 October 2014. Passengers may check their flight itinerary, seat number, confirm their flight and make payment through the www.thaismileair.com website, which is undergoing a revamp to enable flexible pricing structure and new promotions. In addition, starting 2 October 2014, THAI Smile Airways has its own Call Center using the local number +66 (0)2-118-8888 specifically for THAI Smile Airways customers.

Additionally, for THAI Smile Airways codeshare flights with Thai Airways International (TG), passengers may make ticket reservations through www.thaiairways.com website or the THAI Contact Center at +66 (0)2-356-1111, which will be able to handle only Thai Airways International flights or THAI Smile Airways codeshare flights.

The THAI Board of Directors acknowledged and approved the following management appointments.

The THAI Board of Directors acknowledged the Company’s operating performance for July 2014, during which international tourist arrivals to Thailand showed encouraging signs of improvement as compared to the previous month with more political stability. Statistics show that inbound and outbound air traffic through Suvarnabhumi Airport in July 2014 was higher than in June 2014, but was 19.7 percent lower than in July last year. In July 2014, THAI adjusted flight frequencies to better reflect actual travel demand by lowering production capacity. Available Seat-Kilometer (ASK) including that of THAI Smile Airways was lower by 5.4 percent as compared to the same month last year.

Revenue Passenger-Kilometer (RPK) including that of THAI Smile Airways was 11.8 percent lower than the same month last year. RPK on Asian routes was 15.1 percent lower, on domestic routes was 12.1 percent lower, and on international routes was 9.2 percent lower than the same month last year. Cabin Factor including that of THAI Smile Airways averaged 70.2 percent which was lower than last year’s average of 75.3 percent. For the Company’s Cargo and Commercial Mail, available dead ton-kilometers (ADTK), including aircraft belly and freighter, was 2.5 percent lower than the same month last year.

Revenue Freight Ton-Kilometer (RFTK) was 5.3 percent higher than the same month last year which resulted in a Freight Load Factor averaging 51.2 percent, which was higher than last year’s average of 47.4 percent.

Operating Results for June 2014

The THAI Board of Directors acknowledged the Company’s operating performance for June 2014, whereby international tourist arrivals to Thailand have not returned to normal even though the political situation has eased and the curfew was lifted since 13 June 2014. The fact that several countries still have travel warnings for their citizens to be cautious about traveling to Thailand remains. The result is the reduction in tourist arrivals to Thailand by 24.37 percent compared to the same month last year.

In June 2014, (Not including flight of THAI Smile Airways Company Limited operated under the “WE” airline code) the Company’s Available Seat-Kilometer (ASK) for the entire system decreased 9.9 percent compared to the same month last year. Revenue Passenger-Kilometer (RPK) was lower than last year by 22.9 percent, resulting in a system-wide cabin factor of 59.2 percent which was lower than the same month last year’s average of 69.2 percent.

However, when including domestic routes operated under the “WE” airline code, Available Seat-Kilometer (ASK) for the entire system decreased 8.2 percent compared to the same month last year. Revenue Passenger-Kilometer (RPK) was lower than last year by 21.4 percent, resulting in an average system-wide cabin factor of 59.3 percent. Cabin factor on regional routes decreased from 73.2 percent to 60.2 percent and on international routes decreased from 66.3 percent to 58.2 percent and on domestic routes decreased from 64.7 percent to 61.3 percent for the same month.

For the Company’s Cargo and Commercial Mail, Revenue Freight Ton-Kilometer (RFTK) increased from last year by 1.9 percent. Available Dead Ton-Kilometer (ADTK) decreased 5.8 percent compared to last year which resulted in a freight load factor including aircraft belly and freighter averaging 54.3 percent, which was higher than last year’s average of 50.3 percent.

1. Operating Results for May 2014

The THAI Board of Directors acknowledged the Company’s operating performance for May 2014, amidst the ongoing political protest in May which continues to effect tourists’ decision to travel to Thailand. Several countries have issued travel warnings on Thailand and have advised their citizens to postpone or reschedule travel plans. These travel warnings have caused tourist arrivals to decrease by 10.6 percent as compared to the same month last year.

In May 2014, (Not including flight of THAI Smile Airways Company Limited operated under the “WE” airline code) the Company’s Available Seat-Kilometer (ASK) for the entire system decreased 6.8 percent compared to the same month last year. Revenue Passenger-Kilometer (RPK) was lower than last year by 16.1 percent, resulting in a system-wide cabin factor of 59.8 percent which was lower than last year’s 66.4 percent.

However, when including domestic routes operated under the airline code “WE” the Available Seat-Kilometer (ASK) including that of THAI Smile decreased 5.1 percent compared to the same month last year. Revenue Passenger-Kilometer (RPK) was lower than last year by 14.6 percent, resulting in a system-wide cabin factor of 59.8 percent. The cabin factor on regional routes decreased from 71.2 percent to 64.3 percent and on international routes decreased from 61.3 percent to 55.2 percent and on domestic routes decreased from 72.6 percent to 61.2 percent.

For the Company’s Cargo and Commercial Mail, revenue freight ton-kilometer (RFTK) increased last year by 2.2 percent. Available dead ton-kilometer (ADTK) decreased 3.8 percent compared to last year which resulted in a freight load factor including aircraft belly and freighter averaging 55.4 percent, which was higher than last year’s 52.1 percent.

2. Chairman Tenders Resignation

The Board of Directors held a discussion concerning the Chairman’s decision to tender his resignation from the position of Chairman of the Board of Directors but the Board of Directors requested Air Chief Marshal Prajin Juntong to remain THAI’s Chairman.
