Reunion 360 was during the just-ended Top Resa tourism trade fair in Paris given a resounding thumbs up by Frederic Vanhoutte, President of Travel d’Or.

IRT President Patrick Serveaux was the one launching the new website and technology, and visitors to the Reunion Island stand were thrilled by being able to try it out, as one of the pictures demonstrates.

With one of the trade show days dedicated to new technologies and applications, IRT presented its 360 throughout the day. Leap motion, a virtual tour and an augmented reality tour, were on the program, giving an opportunity for visitors to try out these technological innovations that capture and recognize hand movements and allow 360° navigation through video. Matthias Felk, the French Secretary of State for Tourism, showed that he was impressed when he said: “It’s really a way to showcase the destination. This is extraordinary.” Extraordinary indeed, just as the entire Reunion Island presents itself to visitors.

Reunion Island has in the past already been recognized for the exceptional quality of its various applications available for iPhones and Android-powered smart phones, and the website allowing a virtual visit of all the key attractions the island offers visitors.

By late afternoon that day, a deal was signed with Net Managers by Reunion Island Tourism; the island’s home airline, Air Austral, Lux Resorts hotel group, and event company Eventiz to bring the annual Net Managers conference to Reunion Island. After Shanghai in 2014, it is a huge step for the island to host such an important international conference dedicated to e-tourism. The event, entitled “Next Big Things,” will be held from June 2-6 next year.

IRT also reaped big from the stand’s performance on the opening day of Top Resa when it presented a preview of all the innovations to the press and the public, including its new website. The interface is state-of-the-art and highlights the major attractions of the island, the volcano, the sea, the mountains, and, of course, art, culture, and cuisine.
