VIENTIANE - Chinese investors are trying to develop the Tonphurng district, located in the Golden Triangle area, through a well-funded development plan that would cost US$68 million and known as the Comprehensive Tourism Development Project, Lao news agency, KPL, reported Wednesday.

The Dokgniew Kham Company would be constructing facilities for a casino, hotel, golf course, restaurant and shopping mall and the Lao government has given it the green light.

Sisa-ath Khoumphanh, who is in charge of this project said that its facilities would attract tourists as the Golden Triangle has borders with Laos, Thailand and Myanmar, and it is linked to China by R3 road and Mekong River.

Dokngiew Kham Company is leasing 800 hectares of land for 50 years and Sisa-ath also said that the project would be completed in 2011.
