Mr. Orhan Abbas, the Senior Vice President of Emirates responsible for Commercial Operations for Latin America, Central, East & Southern Africa and the Indian Ocean, met with Minister Alain St.Ange, the Seychelles Minister responsible for Tourism and Culture, and Sherin Naiken, the CEO of the Seychelles Tourism Board, as they transited Dubai on their way to the IFTM Top Resa Tourism Trade Fair in Paris.

The meeting on the Emirates side was also attended by Mr. Muhammed Riza, the Regional Manager at Emirates, and Mr. Oomar Ramtoola who is responsible for the Indian Ocean at Emirates.

The meeting was an opportunity for the Seychelles Minister and the CEO of the Seychelles Tourism Board to hear from Emirates their plans for Seychelles and for them to discuss together what is seen by Seychelles as new possibilities.

The 2015 edition of the Seychelles annual “Carnaval International de Victoria” was also discussed especially as this coming edition will coincide with the UNWTO & ICAO Ministerial Meeting for Tourism and Transport Ministers and the UNWTO CAF Ministers Meeting which will both be held in Seychelles during the same time as the carnival that has established itself as the โ€œCarnival of Carnivalsโ€ under the theme of the โ€œMelting Pot of Cultures.โ€

Minister St.Ange discussed the need to work to grow the Middle East and GCC countries market and to see how to join efforts to grow the traditional source markets in Europe.

“We met Emirates today as we transited Dubai, and it was an excellent meeting. Both the Tourism Board CEO and I heard from Emirates their plans, and we discussed new strategies that should benefit Seychelles at the same time consolidating Emirates share of the market as they introduce from October their 14 weekly flights to Seychelles. The double daily by Emirates shows clearly their commitment to Seychelles and their belief in Seychelles,” Minister St.Ange said after the meeting.

Mr. Orhan Abbas has given his commitment that Emirates would be present at the 2015 edition of the Carnaval International de Victoria and that they would work with Seychelles to make a quick difference on visitor arrival numbers on the Middle East and GCC countries market.
