PressRelease: In 2014, the regional spotlight will once again be on Trinidad and Tobago. From October 8-10, over 1,000 regional and international representatives from the business, government, civil society and academia will converge in Port of Spain to participate in the VIII Americas Competitiveness Forum (ACF). The ACF is the preeminent economic and commercial event in the Americas that seeks to advance socioeconomic development by providing a platform to facilitate the exchange of knowledge, lessons, experiences and ideas as well as foster closer collaboration and deepen regional integration. Hosted by the Government of Trinidad and Tobago through the Ministry of Planning and Sustainable Development, the selected theme is โ€œThe Human Imagination at Work: Driving Competitiveness, Powering Innovation.โ€

In an effort to demonstrate the actualization of this yearโ€™s theme; the VIII ACF will host an Innovation Village on its margins from October 9 โ€“ 11, 2014 at the Jean Pierre Complex. Attendees at this Innovation Village can expect:

โ€ข An exhibition area designed to display and promote innovative products, services and processes in the fields of Information and Communications Technology, Health and Safety, Environment and Defence. The Innovation Village specifically targets companies that have demonstrated innovation through the changing or creation of, ground breaking concepts, products and services. Exhibitors from some of the most competitive countries in the world including Brazil, Argentina, Israel and the United States are expected to be present.

โ€ข An interactive, social space in which an atmosphere of innovation, motion and movement, facilitates direct interface with products and encourages the igniting of imaginative ideas within visitors, especially the next generation.

โ€ข Networking among delegates, the private sector, entrepreneurs and exhibitors. The Village will not only build awareness and facilitate knowledge sharing among attendees but create possible avenues for the opening of new commercial markets for exhibitors. Prospective local and foreign buyers and sellers will be afforded the opportunity to connect via B2B meetings and matchmaking sessions which will be arranged in advance.

A cultural milieu emblematic of the best of Trinidad and Tobagoโ€™s innovativeness, where the workings of the human imagination will be creatively and beautifully expressed through local examples. The Village will connect the spirit of the people of Trinidad and Tobago with the rest of the region to highlight the creativity and uniqueness of Latin America and the Caribbean.

The 2014 Innovation Village is an inclusive event with benefits for all stakeholders. The products displayed and knowledge exchanged will inform economic transformation through an innovation-driven exhibition with opportunities for international networking and the formation of strategic business alliances. The intellectual richness and thought provoking experiences that the Innovation Village promises will play a role in the development agenda for the approximately 800 million people of the Hemisphere, attracting local and foreign entrepreneurs to display product innovation and demonstrate their creativity to a wide cross-section of potential clients. Trinidad and Tobago extends an open invitation to government leaders, private sector executives, multi-lateral agencies, non-governmental agencies, academic institutions and the general public to be part of an exciting programme of activities guaranteed to stimulate and provoke the human imagination.
