VALLETTA, Malta – The Malta Tourism Authority Board appointed Mr. Paul Bugeja as new Chief Executive Officer of Malta Tourism Authority (MTA) effective immediately. Bugeja will succeed outgoing CEO, Mr Josef Formosa Gauci.

Prior to his appointment as CEO of the Malta Tourism Authority, Bugeja held several senior posts at Corinthia Hotels, most recently, as CFO for the Hotels Operating Divisions and Group Monitoring Board Director. He also served this past year as President of the Malta Hotel & Restaurant Association.

The MTA Board expressed confidence that under Mr. Bugeja โ€™s leadership, the Malta Tourism Authority, together with the Maltese tourism stakeholders, will continue to strengthen tourismโ€™s contribution to the growth of the local economy.

Bugeja said that the looks forward to utilizing his extensive experience acquired in the private sector to strengthen existing initiatives as well as to explore new opportunities that will expand tourism to Malta, but in a sustainable manner.

โ€œThis past year, with the appointment of an MTA representative in the US, Ms. Michelle Buttigieg, based in New York City, MTA has already made great strides in reestablishing Malta Tourismโ€™s official presence in this mostly untapped market,โ€ said Bugeja.

The Board members expressed their thanks to Mr Formosa Gauci for his contribution to the tourism industry during his tenure as CEO of the Malta Tourism Authority.
