The Regent Taipei recently hosted Director Luc Besson, who arrived in Taipei on August 18 for the premiere of his latest film Lucy, marking his return to the hotel for the first time since filming at the Regent last year. The new sci-fi film starring Scarlett Johansson takes place in modern-day Taiwan and features scenes at the Regent Taipei, highlighting areas throughout the hotel, including the forecourt, lobby, and guest-rooms.

โ€œTo ensure the best filming environment, Regent Taipei closed off the entire lobby area for the first time since its grand opening 24 years ago. And for a realistic representation of luxury hotel services, fifteen hotel employees were featured on-screen as extras, in their day-to-day roles, including doormen, concierge staff, VIP service personnel and bellboysโ€ said Regent Taipeiโ€™s General Manager Morton Johnston. โ€œWe were pleased to have been able to provide a fitting setting for Lucy and its cast and crew, who were wonderful to work with.โ€
The luxury Regent brand first appeared on the big screen in 1990 when Pretty Woman was filmed at The Beverly Hills Regent; coincidentally, in that same year, Regent Taipei first hosted the late king of pop Michael Jackson, who claimed Regent as his designated hotel every time he visited Taipei. The list of celebrity guests at the Regent Taipei since extended to include Radiohead, Beyoncรฉ, Girlsโ€™ Generation, Maroon 5, Mariah Carey, Super Junior, CNBLUE, Diana Ross, Lady Gaga, Tom Cruise (who recently visited in 2013), Norman Reedus, Keanu Reeves, Sophie Marceau, top model Cindy Crawford, iconic designer Vivienne Westwood, Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, and newly named Lakers player Jeremy Lin.
