CAIRO, Egypt – Twenty-five people were killed and more than 50 were injured as a result of the bus collision in the south of the Sinai Peninsula in Egypt on Friday.

CAIRO, Egypt – Twenty-five people were killed and more than 50 were injured as a result of the bus collision in the south of the Sinai Peninsula in Egypt on Friday.

According to the information received, shortly after midnight, on a deserted road 50 km from Sharm el-Sheikh two buses collided head-on. The impact was so strong that one of the buses overturned. There is an ongoing rescue operation to recover bodies of the victims. According to experts, the number of casualties could rise.

As reported by the Ministry of Health, Egypt, there are foreigners among the injured – a citizen of Ukraine, two citizens of Saudi Arabia and a Yemeni. They all were taken to an international hospital in Sharm el-Sheikh. It is not yet known whether there are any foreign citizens among the dead.

This is one of the largest road accidents in Egypt in recent years. 30 ambulance cars were dispatched to the site. The Governor of South Sinai, as well as the head of the province’s security, are also at the crash site.
