NEW YORK, NY – Destination Germany registered record incoming tourism values for the first six months of 2014.

NEW YORK, NY – Destination Germany registered record incoming tourism values for the first six months of 2014. Preliminary figures released by Germany’s Federal Statistics Office show that foreign guests spent 32.8 million nights in lodging establishments/hotels with ten or more beds. This equals a surplus of 1.9 million overnight stays and a growth of 6% in comparison to last year’s period. The month of June alone strengthened this balance with a surplus of 6% for international overnight stays and is therefore the most successful June since records of lodging statistics began in 1992.

Petra Hedorfer, CEO of the German National Tourist Board, explains, “The dynamics of the incoming tourism is unbroken. We were able to register further growth for every single month of the first half of 2014 in comparison to last year’s already very good numbers. With a plus of 3.2% in the first half of 2013, we can now almost record a doubling of the growth rate of 6%. With this promising start we have the chance to cushion current political and economic uncertainties in important source markets for the German tourism industry and to stay within our prediction of plus 3% for this year.”

The USA contributed with 2,332,476 overnights in Germany from January to June 2014, reflecting an increase of 4.5% compared to the same period last year.
