BEIJING, China - Beijing plans to invest $7.6+ billion to combat air pollution over the next five years. The capital city will work to reduce smog and increase reform, focusing specifically on vehicle emissions, dust, and industrial and coal-fired pollution.
Beijing has already invested more than 14.7 billion yuan, but the additional 50 billion yuan (equivalent to approximately $7.6+ billion USD and allocated by the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Finance) will support the city’s multi-year plan for controlling and preventing air pollution.
The city plans to carry out more than 100 environmental protection projects before 2017. With these sweeping reforms and efforts, Beijing has already reduced pollution levels significantly, but plans to work hard to bring levels down even further and make great strides for the future.
